Why it matters

The Omni Edition was SpotOn's flagship before the Nova. It runs the same idea: you draw a fence on your phone, the collar loads it, and GPS does the rest with no buried wire and no required plan.

Unlike the Nova, SpotOn sells the Omni in three distinct neck ranges (10–14, 12–18 and 19–26 inches), so choose by measuring your dog's neck rather than by weight alone.

Good to knowSpotOn describes the Nova as building on the Omni with “even tighter boundary accuracy and reduced GPS drift”, better cellular reception and longer battery life. If accuracy near trees or buildings is your main worry, compare both.

Who it's for, and who should skip it

Good fit if

  • You want SpotOn's no-required-plan model for less money
  • Your dog's neck fits one of the three Omni sizes
  • Your property is large enough for a GPS fence

Look elsewhere if

  • You want SpotOn's latest accuracy and battery improvements (Nova)
  • Your yard is small
  • You need multiple dogs on one collar; each dog needs its own

What it really costs to own

Plans are optional and add tracking; the collar fences without one. Totals below assume you add a plan.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Fencing without a mandatory subscription
  • Three collar sizes for a closer fit
  • $100 less than the Nova Edition

Cons

  • Older hardware than the Nova
  • Still a high up-front price ($899)
  • Battery life not stated as a figure on the page we read

Limitations to weigh

  • Correction-based containment (tone, then optional static) should be introduced with a qualified trainer.
  • No GPS fence is a physical barrier; boundaries depend on GPS reception.

Final verdict

The Omni is a sensible way into SpotOn if the Nova's price is too high. If you're paying near $900 anyway, check whether the Nova's improvements matter on your property before choosing.
