Wet and fresh food feeders: keeping food cold

Wet food needs a lid, cold and a short window.

By SnoutSmart Editorial · Updated October 2026

The short answer

Dry-food hoppers can't dispense wet food. Use a timed tray feeder with lidded compartments and an ice pack (Closer Pets 2-Meal) or a sealing microchip feeder (SureFeed). Keep wet food out for only a few hours and follow the food maker's guidance.

Options

  • Closer Pets 2-Meal: two timed lids up to 48 hours ahead, with a reusable ice pack.
  • SureFeed: lid seals on a neoprene lip and opens only for the registered pet.
  • PetSafe 5 Meal: dry or semi-moist food in five 1-cup trays.

Food safety

  • Chill or freeze the ice pack fully before use.
  • Schedule wet meals close to when you leave.
  • Wash trays after every use.
